GANGTOK, 06 Sept: Teachers of Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School were felicitated for their contributions to the school during the Teacher’s Day Celebration organized by the T’nites Alumni Association [TAA] here at TNSSS auditorium today.
On the occasion, TAA presented the ‘Teacher of the Year Award’ to Gayatri Pradhan and felicitated a retired teacher of the school, Nirmala Targain, for their contributions to the school.
The programme has the UD&HD Minister, DB Thapa, an alumni himself as the chief guest, accompanied by Gangtok MLA, Dorjee Namgyal, as the guest of honour. ‘Late Rinzing Lama Memorial Trust Award’ of Rs 5000 each was presented to Pankaj Kumar Prasad, topper of class X, and to Pradeep Kumar Kesari, the topper of class XII.
Likewise, stipends of Rs 4000 each were provided by the TAA to three students from economically deprived families who are doing well in academics.
In his address, the chief guest urged students to take inspiration from the life of Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, in whose honour Teacher’s Day is observed, to work hard and take Sikkim’s name to the highest levels.
He also mentioned that all ex-students of TNSSS were doing well in life and are now occupying top positions and it was because of the contribution and active role played by the teachers of the school.
On the same, he encouraged students to respect their teachers and become responsible citizen of the society.
Likewise, the Gangtok MLA encouraged students to give priority to their studies and maintain a positive attitude.
He also informed that all the demands placed by the schools were sanctioned by the CM and works have already begun.
The TAA president, BK Roka mentioned that hardwork, discipline and dedication will help them reach the desired destination.
He mentioned that TAA has been working for the welfare of the school since its formation a decade back.
Earlier, the programme started with a welcome address by the TAA general secretary, Tensung Lepcha and concluded with the vote of thanks by the TAA vice-president, PG Pulger.
On the occasion, the association also felicitated eight alumni members, now Secretaries and HODs of various Departments, - DP Sharma, AK Giri, CT Wangdi, Deorjee Rinchen Bhutia, Lendup Dorjee Lepcha, TB Rajalim, BP Pradhan and CL Denzongpa [IRS]. Similarly, the ‘Late IK Chettri Memorial Award’ to the best disciplined students were given to two students of the school.
