NAMCHI, 07 Sept: A 62 year old man was battered to death by his son over a domestic dispute in West Sikkim today. The deceased has been identified as Ash Raj Limboo, a resident of Bandrainey, Tharpu, in West Sikkim. The incident occurred last night at his home in Ambeytar near Tharpu on the Sikkim-West Bengal border. The accused, his youngest son, 27-year-old Aita Raj Limboo, has been taken into custody and has reportedly confessed to the murder.
The matter came to light this morning when the eldest son of the deceased, Som Kumar Limboo, filed an FIR with the Soreong police this morning. Following this, SDPO TD Kazi, along with PI Karma Bhutia, SI Mahendra Pradhan arrived at the spot and after preliminary investigation, detained the youngest son who was also present at the spot, on grounds of suspicion.
During interrogation, the accused broke down and admitted to the crime, it is informed.
It was revealed during investigation, that the father was taking care of his youngest son’s milching cow and had gone ahead and sold it recently for Rs. 3,000. An altercation broke out over how the money should be split and even though they are reported to have agreed to share it equally, the father reportedly passed on only Rs. 1,000 to his son.
A heated argument broke out over the pending Rs. 500 and son has reportedly admitted to have struck his father on the head with a piece of bamboo lying nearby. The injuries were grievous enough to result in death.
Police sources inform that the son had a lot of pent-up resentment against the father for a series of perceived slights, all of which came out during the altercation and were reportedly detailed during investigation as well.
The accused has been booked under section 302 of the IPC for murder and the victim’s body has been sent to the Namchi District Hospital for autopsy.
