GANGTOK, 01 Sept: Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated all over the country as well as in Sikkim. In Gangtok, the festivities are being held on a grander scale than on earlier years and a handsome Ganesh statue was installed at the Thakurbari complex this morning. The festivities here will continue till 03 September.
The “murti sthapana” here was also attended by Gangtok MLA Dorjee Namgyal this morning and in the evening, Governor BP Singh was scheduled to attend the havan and aarti session, informed Ajay Agarwal, president, Ganesh Puja Committee, Gangtok.
The Governor also extended his Ganesh Chaturthi greetings today.
“May Lord Ganesha- the God of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune - bless us and give us wisdom. May He remove all obstacles that might befall our path to progress,” the Governor conveys his message for the occasion.
The Ganesh Puja Committee, Gangtok, president adds, “We have been celebrating Ganesh Puja in Gangtok for the past 15 years but it was always a one-day affair, this year we are holding the puja for three days with the visarjan of the idol scheduled for 03 September.” Cultural programmes are also scheduled to be held in the evenings.Meanwhile in Rangpon, a weeklong Sri Ganesh Mahotsav got underway today at Rangpo Mandi Bazaar with a Shova cum Kalash Yatra.
The Kalash Yatra started from Rangpo Indrakil Prayag and moved to the Rangpo Fatak lane, Rangpo Upper Bazaar and concluded at Rangpo Mandi bazaar.
Sudhir Chettri, a member of the organising committee, informs that special functions will be held throughout this weeklong programme.
More than five hundred devotees, members of several NGOs, clubs along with area MLA, Industries Minister Neeru Sewa, ward councilor Bikash Kumar Prasad were present for the programme today.
