GANGTOK, 30 March: Dawa Lhendup and Ramesh Chhetri of Sikkim have been selected in the India U-13 team finalised for the AFC U-13 Boys Football Festival to be held in Iran from 10 to 23 May 2011. The two pre-teens were selected based on the performance at the AIFF U-13 Boys Football Championship held at Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, where the Sikkim team gave an impressive performance “compelling the AIFF selectors to select” the duo the India team, conveys the Sikkim Football Association general secretary, Menla Ethenpa, in a press release issued today.
Mr. Ethenpa further informs that AIFF has advised the two boys to attend the coaching camp scheduled to begin in Patialia, Punjab, by 14 April.
Dawa and Ramesh are part of the Boys Club U-14 team. While Ramesh studies at Rongyek Junior High School, Dawa is a student of Arithang JHS.
Mr. Ethenpa, on behalf of SFA, has congratulated them and all the members of Boys Club on their success. It is the hard work put in by the senior members of Boys Club which has started bearing fruit, he said.
He further inform that the Sikkim team is scheduled to return to Sikkim on 02 April.
