Angalo Yo Maya Ko to embrace audiences on Thursday

TSHERING EDEN
GANGTOK, 29 March: The cast and crew of Sikkim’s first Silicon-2k HD film, Kishor Dungmali Rai’s  “Angalo Yo Maya Ko”, made on a budget of Rs 65 lakhs and set to premiere on 31 March at Vajra cinema hall, got talking with media persons today at the Gangtalk restaurant on MG Marg.
Speaking to media persons, the producer, Mr Rai, said, “We have tried to make the film as local as possible from the locations, cast and crew, to the sound recording. We have tried to make use of all the available local resources. ”

Music for the film has been composed by Isaac Chettri from Singtam, the sound recording and dubbing done at Psalm Sound Studio, Tadong, and nearly 90% of the cast are local artists, he informed, adding that, “With this film we also want to prove the point that Sikkim can be self reliant when it comes to making quality films.”
The film, according to Mr Rai, addresses a number of social issues relevant to the times. The pace at which life moves nowadays leaves one with very little time for those close to us and this is the theme running through the film, he informs.
When parents fail to devote the required time and love that their children require, they seek solace in self-destructive means of support which is what the film talks about. Equality for women and alcoholism are some of the other issues that the film addresses.
During the making of the film, Mr Rai recalled, the lead actor, Prashant Tamang, was injured in two bike accidents, forcing the makers to complete those scenes with the help of a stuntman, Siddhant Lama. Out of five songs that feature in the film, “Ghaam le ujyalo dindaicha” has been sung by Prashant, he informed.
Also in the pipeline for Prashant is another film, “Kina Maya Ma” which is directed by Chunnilal Ghimiray and at the post-production stage at the moment.
“I had never really given acting any serious thought, but while watching films by other actors earlier I would, at times, feel like I would have perhaps done this or that differently. So, here I have got an opportunity and let us see how it goes”, said Prashant on the experience of acting. “Singing has always been a hobby and Indian Idol gave me a platform, but it does not make the struggle any easier. It is ultimately up to the individual to use that platform positively,” Prashant said.
The premiere will have the Chief Minister, Pawan Chamling, as the chief guest and Mayang Chang, another Indian Idol contestant and actor, as a special guest. The film will simultaneously release in Nepal as well, it is informed.
