SDF and SKM trade FIRs on Nandu Gaon skirmish

GANGTOK, 02 Apr: Nine supporters of the SDF party have been booked on charges of rioting and assault by the Jorethang police. According to reports the accused SDF supporters are alleged to have obstructed and attacked a group of SKM supporters near the SDF camp at Nandu Gaon as they were returning to Namchi from Jorethang after a campaign. The SKM supporters reportedly belong to the Poklok Kamrang constituency.
The incident took place at around 8:15 in the evening of 01 April and the SKM supporters, who were in vehicles, were pelted with stones and other weapons. A total of 5 SKM vehicles were damaged and some of the supporters also sustained injuries. The police have yet to make any arrests.
Meanwhile, a case of mischief has also been registered against some SKM supporters by the Jorethang police on the complaint of SDF supporters. The accused SKM persons allegedly pelted stones on the vehicle in which the complainants were returning home from Namchi. The incident took place at around 8:35 pm on 01 April at 6th Mile, Nandu Gaon. The vehicle of the complainant was reportedly damaged.
