3 Sikkim martial artists in Indian Wushu team

GANGTOK, 27 Apr: Three members of Sikkim Amateur Wushu Association [SAWA] have been selected in the India Wushu team for the upcoming 12th International Wushu Championship scheduled to be held at Tibilisi in Georgia from 18 to 23 June. OS Singh, Binita Rai and Aaron Gurung are part of the 16-member India Wushu team.
It may be mentioned here that these three martial artists had represented the country in the last edition of this championship held in Hongkong. In the 11th edition of the championship, Mr Singh won gold medal, Binita bagged silver and Aaron reached till the quarter-final round.
The three martial artists were again shortlisted by the Wushu Association of India for the national team on the basis of their performances in the last edition, it is informed.
Speaking to NOW! today, SAWA coach, Mr Singh mentioned that all three martial artists are in their peak and are looking forward to win medals for the country and to bring laurels for Sikkim as well. They are presently going through rigorous training in the capital and will go for a 15-day special training at Delhi or Manipur before leaving for the tournament, he added.
Binita has won 3 silver medals in international championships along with 1 gold medal, 3 silver and 1 bronze at the national level and has won Best Fighter titles three times in the north-east level competitions. She was also adjudged the Wushu Queen in the National championship held in Haridwar in 2012.

Aaron has won 3 medals at the national level and 6 gold medals at the north-east level so far.
