2ND DIVISION S-LEAGUE QUALIFYING ROUND KICKS OFF

Gangtok teams register big wins on day-One
GANGTOK, 28 Apr: The Second Division Sikkim-League qualifying round kicked off here at Paljor Stadium this afternoon. Thirty teams from different parts of the state will be participating in the qualifying round of the league, which is being organized by Sikkim Football Association.
In the inaugural match, Gangtok Sports League thrashed Mutanchi Rong 8-3. In the second match of the day, Ranka FC went down to Sikkim Royal SA 1-2.
The inaugural day had the Sports & Youth Affairs Secretary, PR Poudyal as the chief guest, while the Rajya Sainik Board Secretary, DN Bhutia was present as the guest of honour.
Speaking to media persons today, SFA general secretary Menla Ethenpa informed that there are 5 new teams in this season of the second division qualifying round of the league. This time there are teams from Gyalshing, Mangalbaria, Namthang, Central Pendam, Ranka, Singtam, Pakyong and in and around Gangtok. This time a team of Sheda Rendzong FC is also taking part in the league.
These 30 teams have been divided into 10 groups with 3 teams in each group. Mr Ethenpa informed that only the topper of each group will then advance to the Super-10 knockout stage.
Two matches will be played every day where the first match will start at 12:30 PM which will be followed by the second match at 2:30 PM.
On Tuesday, Pendam FC will take on Invincible FC [Middle Tadong] in the first mach, while the second match will be played between Young Boys FC [Gyalshing] and New Star [Middle Tadong].
