Eagles hold Aizawl FC to a draw
GANGTOK, 07 Feb: Eagle FC [Kerala] held Aizawl FC to a draw in the first match of the I-League Second Division preliminary round of Group B which started today here at Paljor Stadium.
With an early goal from Lalnuntluanga in the 11th minute, Aizawl FC finished the first half with 1-0 lead. In the second half, Eagle FC players failed to capitalize on some very good opportunities to equalize the match. However, Koko Atanda of Eagle FC managed to score the equalizer in the 83rd minute of the match.
Finally, the match ended with 1-1 draw with both teams sharing a point each.
In the second match of the day, Bhawanipore FC thrashed Kenkre FC [Mumbai] 4-0 to win the full 3 points.
Daniel Bidemi Ayeni scored the early lead for Bhawanipore in the 7th minute and soon his teammate J Prasad extended the lead to 2-0 in the 11th minute. Bhawanipore ended the first half with 2-0 lead.
Soon in the second half, Daniel Bidemi scored his brace in the 48th minute and extended the lead of the team to 3-0 and with the fourth and final goal by Dipendu Dowary in the 65th minute Bhawanipore sealed its 4-0 victory.
On Sunday, Hindustan FC [Delhi] will take on Aizawl FC in the first match at 11:30 AM, while the second match will be played between Bhawanipore FC and Eagle FC.
The inaugural day had the UD&HD Minister, DB Thapa as the chief guest.
