80 ABOVE 70 YEAR OLDS TAKEN ON PILGRIMAGE, TREATED TO SPECIAL CULTURAL PROGRAMME
MELLI DARA, 07th Feb: The Melli Dara-Paiyong Gram Panchayat Unit has been celebrating “Senior Citizens Day” on 07 February since the year 2012 and this year, the GPU treated 80 senior citizens to a pilgrimage of Char-Dham and Sai Mandir in Namchi.
The “Senior Citizen Day” has been conceptualized with an aim of creating an opportunity for a reunion for elders above 70 years of age. The Gram Panchayat sends invitations to every senior citizen in the GPU, and this year some 80 of them got together. Medical check-up was also organized for the elders and a special cultural programme held on the day for their amusement.
The senior citizens expressed their gratitude to the Gram Panchayat for conducting such a wonderful pilgrimage tour for them, a press release conveys.
