NAMCHI, 24 Sept: Namchi Public School boys have won this year’s Sikkim Bhojraj Memorial Basketball Tournament that was conducted by the Basketball Association of Sikkim at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok.
A press release informs that NPS defeated St. Xavier’s School, Pakyong in the boys’ finals by 67 points to 31. NPS’s Dennis Rai was declared the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. NPS Principal, Rev. Fr. George A. D’Souza, in a colourful ceremony felicitated the team members for winning the tournament and for being a dominant force throughout the tournament.
The Principal also thanked the Coach, Suhas Bhattacharjee and Manager, Francis Rai for training the team and making the NPS Boys’ team a force to reckon with in basketball, in the hills, the release mentions.
In the Quarter-finals NPS defeated Holy Cross School, Tadong, by 57 points to 7. In the Semi-finals, NPS defeated Tashi Namgyal Academy, Gangtok, by 63 points to 40.
