Dengue awareness in West Sikkim

GANGTOK, 25 Sept: District Hospital Gyalshing, West Sikkim organized an awareness programme on Dengue at Nayabazar, Reshi School, Legship School, Gautam Dharmasala of Legship, Toyang ICDS centre, Langang ICDS centre and Tikjeck ICDS centre respectively.
Dr. Bikash Pradhan [DSO/W], Rikki Lhamu Lepcha [Sr. CNO], Bindya Subedi [HE IEC/Cell], BB Basnett [NMS] and Chandra Kala Sharma were the resource persons for the programme. During the awareness programme, the public were informed that dengue fever is a vector borne disease mainly caused by the Aedes mosquito; the signs and symptoms of dengue fever and that people suffering from fever should immediately visit a doctor and get tested for dengue.
The resource persons also spoke on the preventative measures to be taken like keeping the surroundings clean and use of mosquito net and repellents at night. The District Hospital Gyalshing also distributed medicated mosquito nets to BPL families.
