Upper Syari school engage in solid waste management discussion

GANGTOK, 15 June: Gangtok Municipal Corporation's initiative on Solid Waste Management 'Engage 14' reached Upper Syari school on Saturday with its second phase of intervention, Engage Discussion to help young students understand Solid Waste Management and inspire them to reduce, reuse and recycle.  
As per a press release, the panel discussion was attended by Suman Rai [Bazaar Inspector GMC] who informed the kids about the working of the GMC and also highlighted how people could help the GMC make Gangtok the cleanest place to live in.
The discussion was also attended by Vivek Chettri [former member Kanchenjunga Conservation Committee] who encouraged students to reduce, reuse and recycle. He also highlighted the ill effects of styrofoam (thermocol plates) and urged students not to use these items in family functions and parties. The Headmaster of the school Raju Chettri highlighted the various innovative ideas on Solid Waste Management that the school has taken up and also promised that they would further be inspired to engage in best practices of reducing, reusing and recycling, the release mentions.
The panel discussion was moderated by Dewaker Basnet [Chief Learning Officer, 24hours Inspired] and the prizes for the poster competition were given away by the Head Master of the school, it is added.
