Prohibitory orders around SLA for Budget Session

GANGTOK, 19 June [IPR]: A prohibitory order has been issued under section 144 Cr.PC by the District Magistrate-East prohibiting assembly of more than five persons sloganeering, shouting, rioting, protesting, staging a dharna, demonstration, picketing, postering, wall writing or carrying out any other activity whatsoever it may be, which may cause disturbance to the public peace and tranquility within the area falling within 500 meters radius from the outer boundary of the Legislative Assembly complex.
The order shall come into force with effect from 9 a.m. on 23 June 2014 and shall remain in force till the end of current Assembly Session or unless withdrawn earlier. This order shall not be applicable to those who are engaged in law enforcement for the purpose of maintenance of law and order.
It is further reiterated and clarified that, this order is issued as a usual standard practice during the Assembly Session and is passed purely as a precautionary measure to prevent any kind of untoward activity which may cause disruption in proceedings of the Assembly and may affect the sanctity and decorum of the Assembly.
