Sikkim Psychological Services to help Sikkim heal

GANGTOK, 19 June: Sikkim Psychological Services [SPS], an independent group formed “considering the dearth of mental health professionals in the state”, is all geared up to open a clinic here.
The clinic, scheduled to be opened in Tadong, will offer services tailored towards addressing depression, anxiety management, atress management, alcohol/  drug dependence, adjustment issues, marital counseling, grief/ trauma counseling, family therapy, psycho education and Life Skills Training, a press release informs.
SPS was founded on 20 September, 2013 by Tseyang Palzom (M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology) and Pragyan Deep Dewan (M.Sc. Counseling Psychology) as a means of creating awareness about psychological issues in Sikkim.
In April 2014, SPS teamed up with Arun Awasthy, the centre  director of  PeoplePro/ Skill-ED (PARTH) and was also joined by two additional psychologists - Angela Lama (M.Sc. Counseling Psychology) and Chetraj Gurung (M.Sc. Clinical Psychology).
SPS is seeking participation and cooperation to deal with persistent psychological and substance abuse related issues in Sikkim. The core mission at SPS, the release states, is to bring together trained psychologists and counselors in order to promote quality care and treatment of psychological problems in the state.
