GANGTOK, 08 Nov:The Sikkim Democratic Front party has strongly condemned the attack on one of its top party functionaries, the chairperson of the Sikkim State Other Backward Classes Commission, TN Sharma, on 02 November at Chittrey in West Bengal by some miscreants. Mr. Sharma was returning from Kalimpong at the time.
In a press release, SDF publicity secretary Churamani Mishra informs that Mr. Sharma had gone to Kalimpong to get his son home for the Diwali holidays. On his way back to Sikkim he was allegedly followed by some miscreants from Kalimpong and attacked at Chittrey, the release informs.
The SDF party has already lodged a complaint with the police in both Sikkim and West Bengal. The party has hinted that the attack could have been planned by a section of the Opposition in Sikkim.
Mentioning that such attacks on SDF leaders have been happening for a while now, the party feels that the lives of its leaders are in danger. Mr Sharma’s vehicle had also been torched by some miscreants in Sichey a few months ago, the release mentions.
