GANGTOK, 08 Nov: ONGC Mumbai edged past Kalighat Club, Kolkata 2-1 in the second match of the 34th All India Governor’s Gold cup Football Tournament 2013 today here at Paljor Stadium. With this win ONGC Mumbai has advanced to the second round of the tournament where it will take on Manang Marshyangdi Club from Nepal on 13 November.
Playing on the offensive from the opening whistle itself, Kalighat Club players kept up constant pressure on ONGC throughout the first half. Soon in the first half, the referee offered a penalty shot to Kalighat for a foul in the ONGC D-box which was successfully converted by Pintu Bakshi and Kalighat finished the first half ahead 1-0.
In the second half, ONGC players bounced back, putting pressure on their opponents. In the 62nd minute, ONGC captain Fanai Lalmuampuia turned a cross from his teammate into the equalizer with a wonderful heading. Again in the 80th minute, Parwinder Singh netted the direct free-kick near the Kalighat D-box into the winning goal for ONGC.
With this 2-1 win, the ONGC has advanced to the second round of the tournament while Kalighat Club is returning home.
On Saturday, Nepal National Youth Team will take on Eastern Railways at 2 PM.
