GANGTOK, 07 Oct: A Sensitization cum Refreshers Training Programme on Juvenile Justice [Care and Protection of Children] Act, 2000 is being organized by the Sikkim State Legal Services Authority [SSLSA] from 06-09 November at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok for the Juvenile Welfare Officers, Special Juvenile Police Units and Stake Holders of all the four districts.
A press release informs that the purpose of the training programme is to sensitize the trainees on detailed module with regard to Juvenile Jurisprudence, Child in Need of Care and Protection [CNPC], Child in Conflict with Law and Role of Police. The first day of the training covered subjects such as Constitutional provisions relating to children, Growth of a child’s mind, Fundamental principles of Juvenile Justice, Administrative System and the International covenants, History of Juvenile Justice legislation in India, categories of Children covered under Juvenile Justice Act, competent authorities to deal with Child in Need of Care and Protection and Child in Conflict with Law, etc.
The four-day training is being attended by Police Officers, Special Juvenile Police Units, representatives of Social Justice and Welfare Department, empanelled Panel Advocates for Juvenile Justice Boards, Para-Legal Volunteers, faculty members and staff of Law Colleges and Schools.
The training is being conducted by Founder and Co-Director of HAQ, Centre for Child Rights, New Delhi and Child Rights Lawyer, New Delhi, Anant Kumar Asthana as the resource persons.
