Sikkim MPs call on DoNER Minister Gen. VK Singh

GANGTOK, 30 May: Sikkim Parliamentarians PD Rai and HisheyLachungpa and former RajyaSabha MP, OT Lepcha called on the Minister for Development of North East Region General (Retd.) VK Singh this afternoon.
A press release informs that the Ministry for Development of North East Region (DoNER) is of premium importance to Sikkim and other northeastern states and General Singh,having served as the Chief of Army Staff, knows Sikkim like the back of his hand.
“General Singh is very enthusiastic about the alternative highway. We have apprised him about the conditions of the roads maintained by BRO. He complimented the successive Chamling-led governments for the use of development funds released by DoNER Ministry, in fact, he stated that it is quite impressive,” says PD Rai.
MrRai reminded the Minister that it was because of the leadership of the Vajpayee Government that Nathula border-trade was opened and Sikkim became a member of the NEC.
“There will be a policy in place that rewards States who deliver Good Governance. I’m sure, Sikkim will be one of the first states to be rewarded,” MrRai added.RajyaSabha MP HisheyLachungpahas invited General Singh to visit Lachung, the release mentions.
The MPs have welcomed Prime Minister NarendraModi’s instructions to the cabinet that Ministers should focus on efficient governance, delivery and implementation of programs, and give priority to the issues brought by state governments and Members of Parliament, it is added.
