Italian Consul General calls on Governor

GANGTOK, 29 May: Consul General of Italy, Kolkata,Cesare Bieller who is on an official visit to Sikkim, called on the Governor of Sikkim,Shriniwas Patil todayat Raj Bhavan.
A Raj Bhavan release informs that the Governor extended his warm greetings to the Consul General and welcomed him with a traditional scarf.During interaction,the Governor talked about the topographical uniqueness of the State of Sikkim with various scope for adventure tourism such as river rafting, rock climbing, trekking, paragliding etc. He sought the help of Consul General in disseminating the information so that the State could secure more tourists from Italy.
The Governor further expressed that there is a need to simplify the process of obtaining visa for prospective Sikkimese desiring to visit Italy. He suggested that a helpdesk be opened at Sikkim for fast tracking and facilitating the process of obtaining visa for which a staff to man the helpdesk be deputed on a regular date once or twice a month from the Italian Consulate Office, Kolkata.
Wider publicity detailing the list of documents required for obtaining visa may also prove to be fruitful so that it would be collected in the helpdesk and processed accordingly in a time bound manner, the Governor added.
The Consul General on his behalf assured all possible help from his office to facilitate the process of obtaining visa and simplifying it in the interest of Sikkimese applicants, the release mentions.
