MANGAN, 18 Feb: A meeting was organized by Sikkim Krantikari
Morcha (SKM) at its party office at Phodong, North district today. The meeting
discussed the grievances of the public and steps being taken by the present
government and district administration to address these problems.
The North district has the highest number of hydel power
projects in the state but people of the district still face power shortage, it
was stated. On the Chief Minister’s recent announcement during the Janta Mela
of providing 100 units of free electricity in the rural areas, SKM workers
demanded to know if a notification has been passed on the same and when this
provision would begin.
The party has asked the District Administration to provide
the list of beneficiaries of North Sikkim to find out if the benefits were
distributed in a proper manner. The meeting also raised the issue of bad road
conditions in the North district.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks delivered by
ex-Panchayat, Rinzing Dorjee Bhutia. The meeting was attended by vice
president, central executive committee, Youth Affairs North, Kado Lepcha,
general secretary, North district, Ugen Nedup Bhutia, ex-Panchayat secretary,
Phensong GPU, Thinlay Yoezar Bhutia, ex-Panchayat president, Men-Rongong,
Norden Lepcha, ex-Panchayat president, Ramthang-Tanek GPU, Danny Lepcha, CEC
Phodong, Subash Subba and public.
