GANGTOK, 16 Feb: Gangtok Football Club beat Sikkim Armed Police 07-06 in penalty shoot out to lift the NHPC Teesta-V Football Tournament at Balutar on Saturday. Apart from the winner’s trophy, the team also bagged the Rs. 30,000 cash prize. SAP took home the runners-up trophy, Rs. 20,000 in cash and also the golden boots for Pradeep Gurung who emerged as the highest scorer of the tournament with six goals. Sushil from North Star Mangan was adjudged the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
The tournament, an NHPC press release informs, was organized by NHPC “to promote the rural sports activities and encourage budding young talents around the vicinity of the project area”. The tournament was played from 30 Jan to 15 Feb and was organsied in association with the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs and attracted the participation of 16 teams.
The tournament was a part of CSR&SD activities of NHPC, Teesta Stage-V Power Station.
The final match has Chief Whip, Ugen T. Gyatso Bhutia, as chief guest accompanied by the Temi-Namphing MLA BS Panth, and senior NHPC officials.
