West Sikkim ladies trained on carpet design and development

GANGTOK, 29 June: Ninety ladies, thirty each from the villages of Ribdi, Chamba Gaon and Okhrey in West Sikkim, have completed an intensive 300-hour training on Carpet Design and Development held in their respective villages earlier this month.
The training, sponsored by the Ministry of Medium and Small Enterprises, GoI, under its Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programme, was conducted by Gangtok-based DoCo Textiles & Handloom.
With Sonam Choden and Passang Tshering Dorjee of DoCo Textiles and Handloom as the main resource persons, the trainees, all from the Scheduled Tribes community, had Nim Doma Sherpa, Zemang Sherpa and Pem Diki Tamang as assistant trainers.

They received a detailed introduction to carpet designing, colour combinations, reading design graphs and weaving in the traditional style.
All the ninety trainees completed the course and were awarded certificates by IIE faculty member, AS Dewan, MSME Asst Director, SK Sen, KVIC Supervisor SK Das, president, Meetok Pema Self Help Group, Dalamu Sherpa.
