Savari mishap at Tiffin Dara claims 3 lives

NAMCHI, 28 April: A fatal road mishap at Tiffin Dara near Samdruptse here claimed three lives and left seven others injured today.
Man Bahadur Rai (30), his wife Shantikala Rai (28) and Anita Rai (28) of Simkharka Ben in South Sikkim were killed on the spot at around 9 a.m. this morning when the Mahindra Savari passenger jeep [SK-04-9904] they were travelling in went off the road near the Samdruptse diversion road. The vehicle was coming in to Namchi from Ben below Temi-Tarku.
Initial police investigation into the accident is pointing towards negligence on the part of the driver as the reason behind the mishap. The vehicle plunged around 60 feet off the road. All three fatalities were on the spot, while the remaining seven occupants, including the driver, escaped with minor injuries.

Accidents are always tragic, more so in the present case in which the young couple were travelling to Namchi to meet their two sons, aged 8 and 10 years, studying at a boarding school here. The rescue and recovery team which rushed to the spot were seen fighting back tears as they recovered the homemade food and snacks that the parents were bringing for their kids, who have now been orphaned.
Upon hearing of the accident, a rescue team from Namchi Police Station and the Namchi Fire Station rushed to the spot immediately. The injured were rushed for treatment and the dead bodies brought to the Namchi District Hospital and handed over to the relatives after autopsy.
The seven who survived the mishap with minor injuries, are: Rajesh Rai (22) of Ben, Dhan Singh Rai (40) of Simkharka, Purna Singh Rai (56) of Ben Rolak, Phula Bhutia (25) of Ben, Kiran Rai (20) of Simkharka, Yam Kr. Chettri (36) of Temi and Sujita Subba (25) of Assam Lingzey.
A case has been registered at Namchi PS under Section 279, 337, 338, 304 A of the Indian Penal Code and the driver taken into custody.
