High Jumper Ravi Pradhan of Upper Dalapchand School bags 5th position in national interschool tournament


GANGTOK, 27 April: Ravi Pradhan, a Class IX student from Upper Dalapchand Secondary School, secured fifth position in the High Jump event among other athletes from 29 states at the recently concluded 5th National Inter School Tournament Group-1. The tournament seeks to promote sports and games in schools and was held from 18 to 21 April at Rajnandgoan, Chhattisgarh.
Ravi was presented a memento and a certificate. Sikkim was represented by athletes Ravi Pradhan and Saran Gurung [from Rhenock SSS] and Baha’i School, Tadong in basketball.

The girl’s basketball team lost in the semi finals while the boy’s team made it till the quarterfinals.
Ravi, secured the fifth position with a jump of 5.9 feet while the winner from Kerala had a jump of 6.6 feet under his belt. “It was a nice experience to compete in a national event and I am happy that I performed my best. 5.9 is my personal best and in the days to come I want to improve this mark,” said Ravi.
He thanked Head Master of Upper Dalapchand SS, ST Bhutia, and PE Teacher Rhenock SSS, Bhanu Chettri, for their support and encouragement. Saran from Rhenock SSS, the other athlete to represent Sikkim at the tournament finished 9th among 29 participating states in Long Jump.
Speaking on Ravi’s achievement, his Head Master said that he was proud and happy for his success. “We, the staff of Upper Dalapchand SS wish Ravi the very best in the near future too”, he further added.
