Lower Samdong School wins ‘Green School Award’

MANGAN, 29 April:  Government Secondary School, Lower Samdong, East Sikkim is amongst the top 25 schools in the country short-listed for the ‘Green School Awards 2010’ (Top 10 Change Makers/ Top 10 New Schools/ 5 Best managers) organized by the Centre for Science and Environment [CSE], New Delhi.
The school’s outstanding performance in the Green School Programme organised by CSE under the monitoring and supervision of Forest, Environment and Wildlife Management Department, Government of Sikkim, have fetched them the award.
In this programme, the Headmaster, teachers and students involved themselves in proper management of water, air, land, energy and waste so as to inculcate in students the idea of judicious use of resources and to make our rich environment sustainable and equitable.
The school expresses deep gratitude to Chief Minister, Dr Pawan Chamling for his farsighted vision in environmental issues and to area MLA Tumin Lingee constituency cum Chief Whip, Ugen T Gyatso Bhutia for his constructive and regular support and aiming to make the constituency No.1 in the Green Mission programme of the state.
The school’s position will be announced at the Gobar Times Green Schools Awards ceremony to be held on 15 July at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.  Headmaster of the school, ML Koirala, two teachers, Programme Coordinator, SP Ghimirey, and Assistant Coordinator, ST Lepcha, including four students from the School Audit Team will participate in the ceremony to receive the award.
