GANGTOK, 17 Nov [IPR]: National Press Day 2013, jointly organized by Information and Public Relations [IPR] Department and Press Club of Sikkim was celebrated in a function organized in a local hotel here in the capital on Saturday. The celebration was held on the theme “Role of Media in Serving Public Interest”.
The function chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Sikkim University, Prof TB Subba had Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Bhim Dhungel as the chief guest of the function.
Information and Public Relations Department has been presenting positive journalism grant to 5 journalists every year since 2004. This year, the recipients of the grant are C Samling Lepcha [freelance photographer], Seema Chettri [editor, Himali Yougantar], Bhanu Raj Thapa [editor Rhenock Purva], Rudra Kausik [West District Correspondent of Samay Dainik] and Wangchuk Bhutia [North District correspondent of NOW! and Nayuma Cable TV].
They were presented with a cash award of Rs. 10,000 and certificate.
The PCS had initiated the Gramin Patrakarita Puraskar for best rural reporting last year, and this year, the award went to Namo Dixit, the Namchi Correspondent of Sikkim Express. Vice Chancellor, Sikkim University, Prof. TB Subba, handed over the award.
