GOVERNOR’S GOLD CUP 2013 UPDATE Kalighat MS completes semi-final quartet

GANGTOK, 17 Nov: Kalighat Milan Sangh has become the final team to enter the semi-final round of the ongoing 34th All India Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament 2013 here at Paljor Stadium. In the last quarter-final match played today, Kalighat MS knocked out Nepal National Youth XI by a solitary goal.
Being a crucial match, both teams played hard right from the start. The first half of the match ended in a goalless draw.
Two minutes into the second half, Zodin Liana of Kalighat MS scored the only goal of the match. In the 52nd minute, the referee sent Avijit Majumdar of Kalighat MS off the field for a foul.
However, NNY XI’s players could not take advantage of this reduced strength at Kalighat MS and the match ended 1-0 in favour for the Bengal team.
On Saturday, the United Sikkim Football Club went down to Three Star Nepal 0-2 in the third quarter-final match.
Due to an exhibition match scheduled between India and Nepal at Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri on 19 November, the Nepal national team players in Three Star Nepal and Manang Marshyangdi Club had to leave for Siliguri. Therefore, the semi-final matches of the tournament have been postponed.
Now, the first semi-final match will be played between Tata Football Academy and Three Star Nepal on 20 November, while in the second semi-final match Manang Marshyangdi Club, Nepal will take on Kalighat MS on 21 November. The final match will be played on 22 November.
