Tashiding youth extend support towards Common Platform against HEPs

GANGTOK, 11 Dec: Tashya Tsogpo, a youth organisation of Tashiding, West Sikkim has also extended full support towards the recently formed Common Platform of different organisations against the hydel projects in West Sikkim.

A press release from the organisation mentions that views expressed by environmental experts as well as religious heads and monasteries have all highlighted the adverse fallout of the projects especially, “the report of the one man commission headed by Prof. P.S. Ramakrishnan which has recommended discontinuing the project in this holy land”.
“The water from the upper part of Rathong Chu is used to replace and refill the Bhum-Chu [Holy Vase Water]. Any provocation and pollution of Rathong Chu will tantamount to an attack on the sanctity and sacredness of the water” the release states.
Recalling the Chief Minister’s 1997 decision to scrap the project over Rathong Chu the release expresses “We are the same people with the same sentiments of 1997 and have great hope that our Chief Minister too will reciprocate in the same manner as done in 1997 by scrapping these anti- Sikkimese projects”.
