EMRS girls leave for CBSE National Basketball Championship

GANGTOK, 09 Dec: A 12-member basketball team of Eklavya Model Residential School, Gangyap, in West Sikkim, has left for Tamil Nadu to participate in the CBSE Basketball National Championship to be held from 12 to 17 December on Friday.

The team is led by captain, Nim Doma Bhutia [Class X] and vice-captain, Manita Subba [Class X] and is being escorted by Tini Tshechu as team manager and Sidharth Yonzon as team coach, who is also the principal of the school.
The championship is scheduled to be held at the Vellamai International School, Ponneri, Tamil Nadu and over 64 schools from across the country as well as from the Gulf countries are taking part in the championship.
It may be mentioned here that the EMRS, Gangyap, had qualified for the Nationals after emerging as the champions at the Cluster-I [North-East Region] held at Guwahati last month.
A press release issued by the school mentions that the EMRS team is young, but has enormous potential and determination.
The team has assured that they will give their best performance but also added that it could be difficult playing with teams that have practiced on the finest basketball courts with adequate match practice.
EMRS, Gangyap, still does not have a basketball court and the practice sessions are conducted in a tiny plot of open ground with mud and stone surface.
