Rongong Youth Club welcomes joint front against hydel projects on Rathong Chu, wants Dikchu HEP to be scrapped as well


GANGTOK, 09 Dec: Rongong Youth Club of Rongong-Phodong, North Sikkim, has welcomed and extended full support to the common platform of different organisations in protest of the hydel projects on the Rathong Chu in West Sikkim, in a press release issued today by its Chief Patron, Gay Tshering Bhutia, conveys.

The Club has further requested the platform to include the 99MW Dikchu HEP being constructed by Sneha Kinetic Power Project Pvt Ltd in the list of projects to be scrapped, the release states.
“We have also not received information i.e Detail Project Report [DPR] of the 99MW Dikchu Hep requested under the RTI Act from the concerned department,” the release mentions.
Stating that the ‘wounds’ of the 18 Sept earthquake are still ‘fresh’ in the minds of the Sikkimese people, the release requests the State government to take into consideration the advice of the Minorities Commission member to ‘stop, think and review’ all the power projects in the state in view of the fact that Sikkim falls under seismic zone-V and is ‘a land of Dharma’.
