GANGTOK, 11 Oct: The Yuksam BAC remained open during the Dussehra holidays and relief work for earthquake victims continued unhindered throughout the week, an official communiqué informs. The Muster Roll payments were disbursed to the MGNREGA workers of all nine Gram Panchayats under the BAC ahead of the Dasain break, the release adds.
Old age pension, subsistence allowance for the disabled and widow pension were also disbursed to the managers of the MPCS and postmasters of all the nine Gram Panchayats under the BAC last Monday. The pensioners who hail from some of the remotest areas in the state all have accounts either in the micro banks in the MPCS or the village post office, it is informed.
The BDO, Suraj Gurung, had instructed the MPCS managers and the postmasters to make the payment to the pensioners from Tuesday onwards. He informed that almost all the houses in the villages along with the monasteries, including the Tashiding monastery and the Dubdi monastery, under the block have suffered extensive damage due to the earthquake.
The BDO, who has been continuously visiting the earthquake affected areas for the past three weeks, distributed relief materials to the villagers whose homes have been severely damaged in four of the gram panchayats. He also disbursed the cash relief through a/c payee cheques to the affected villagers of two gram panchayats. He was accompanied by the Panchayat Inspector, Roshan Subba, and Supervisor, Tashi Bhutia.
