DEBUTANT LEAVES FOR UZBEKISTAN TO PLAY AFC U-16 QUALIFIERGANGTOK, 01 Oct: Uttam Rai of Chumbung, West Sikkim, who was selected by AIFF on the recommendation of SFA to undergo a 9-month soccer training camp in the US has been selected in India U-16 team to play in the AFC U-16 Qualifier. He has left for Tashkent, Uzbekistan along with the Indian team, an SFA press release informs.
India has been clubbed in Group ‘C’ along with hosts Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Bahrain and Krygzstan.
The SFA general secretary, Menla Ethenpa, conveys that Uttam has great potential as a forward and with the added exposure trip to US “we hope that he will be able to perform well in this international tournament keeping the name of Sikkim”.
The SFA president, BK Roka, has conveyed his best wishes to young Uttam.
