Protesting EIILM students agree to sit for exams: HRDD

Department gets through to acting VC, receives assurance

GANGTOK, 05 Jan: The protesting students of EIILM University have agreed to sit for the remaining papers of their examination, a press communiqué received from the Nodal Officer for Public Relations & Publicity at the Human Resource Development Department informs. This was resolved following a meeting chaired by the HRD Minister with the students in his office here today.
The Principal Secretary, HRDD, spoke to the acting Vice Chancellor of the university RP Sharma over the phone and in return, the acting VC assured that the university will conduct the examinations for the remaining papers within a very short period, the press release informs.
Earlier, the Minister advised the students not to get carried away by heresy and not give credence to any information which has no authentic and official source, the release adds.
“This may be mentioned here that although the EIILM University is a totally private institution, yet the HRDD has come in the forefront in order to ensure that the students enrolled in this university are safe, secured and their academic future is protected. It is because the students studying there are our children and hence, the Department is available all the times so long the future and academic career of the students are concerned,” the official release details.
In return, the students have confirmed their full support and all required action in order to maintain smooth functioning of the university, it is added.
Today’s meeting was attended also by the Principal Secretary/ HRDD, Director/ Primary Education, Deputy Secretary/ Higher Education, Joint Director/ West and Deputy Directors/ West. Student representatives of the EIILM University were also present. The student representatives included foreign students from Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh studying in the EIILM University.
