5 arrested on suspicion of assaulting 74 yr old

GANGTOK, 10 June: Pakyong Police have arrested five suspects in connection with an assault reported on 07 June near Lampatay Dara above Rorathang.
According to the victim, 74 year old Harka Man Rai of Kali Khola, he was returning home alone on foot on 07 June at around 7:30 p.m. when unknown persons attacked him from behind with a sharp weapon and sticks. He sustained injuries to his head and right ear and was also robbed of his mobile phone. Subsequently, a case under section 307 and 392 [attempt to murder and punishment for robbery] of the Indian Penal Code was registered against unknown persons at the Pakyong Police Station on 08 June.
On 09 June, Pakyong Police arrested Phip Raj Subba [25], Krishna Prasad Sharma [33], Sanjit Prasad [23], Ranjeet Prasad [25] and Rudra Chettri [46], all residents of Rorathang. One Suresh Rai alias Motey who happened to work as a labour at the quarry on the river bank at Rorathang under the quarry contractor Rudra Chettri is absconding since 08 June after the incident.
Interrogation of suspected persons and circumstances revealed strong complicity of absconding suspect Suresh Rai hailing from Nepal. The case is under investigation.
