BAL BAHADUR GURUNG IS OLDEST VOTER IN SOUTH SIKKIM
NAMCHI, 20 Mar [IPR]: As per the latest data received from the
office of Election Department South District, the total number of voters in
South Sikkim is 1,00,621 with 51,191 male voters and 49,422 female voters. The
most remote polling station is situated in Sokpey under Lingee GPU which falls
under Rangang-Yangang constituency.
The oldest voter in South Sikkim is 103-year-old Bal Bahadur
Gurung of Barfung constituency.
There are total 8 Assembly constituencies in South Sikkim
with 154 polling stations out of which 08 are in urban areas and 146 in rural
areas. There are 20 polling stations in Barfung, 21 in Poklok Kamrang, 18 in
Namchi Singhithang, 17 in Melli, 22 in Namthang Rateypani, 20 in Temi Namphing,
14 in RangangYangang and 22 in Tumin-Lingee.
29 polling stations have been identified as critical so far.
In the 2009 Assembly and Parliamentary Election, the total
voter turnout was 82.06% in which 81.44% were male and 82.72% were female. The
Polling Station with lowest voter turnout in South Sikkim in the 2009 elections
was Singhithang with 58.3 % while the highest turnout was recorded in Ralong at
99.72%.
The Returning Officer (RO)/DC South, Prabhaker Verma
informing about the South Sikkim General Election activities and development
said that the Notice of Election in Form I was issued after receipt of
notification from the Home Department, Government of Sikkim and copies of the
notice in the Form I were sent to the office of the CEO and displayed in the
notice boards of the office of the RO, SDM offices, and GVKs.
The Expenditure Observer, B S Negi today held a meeting with
the Assistant Expenditure Observers (AEOs) deployed for the election. During the
interaction he clarified the doubts and queries put up by the AEOs. Shedding
light on the role of the AEOs, Mr Negi informed that after the nomination of a
party candidate, expenditure will go to his account. Here he instructed the
teams to submit a daily activity report to him. He also inspected the MCMC
office.
Likewise the Expenditure Observer for Sangha Assembly constituency
and Sikkim Parliamentary Constituency, Darse Samuel also conducted a similar
meeting with the AEOs. Both the Observers expressed their satisfaction on the
election preparedness of the AEOs of South District. ADC (Dev) Rabongla, Tashi Choppel, ADC South,
Kapil Meena and Senior AO, Sunil Shrama In-charge of Expenditure Monitoring
were present in this meeting with the Observers.
