GANGTOK, 22 Dec: GVK-wise Orientation Program for Panchayats & Progressive Farmers on Organic farming and Certification began here at the Gram Vikash Kendra, Regu, BAC, Rongli on Saturday. The program is being organized by Sikkim Organic Mission in collaboration with International Competency Centre of Organic Agriculture [ICCOA] Sikkim Branch, and CONCEDE.
A total of 150 [Panchayats & farmers] from in-and-around Regu, Lingtam, Phadamchen, Latuk and Chuchenpari participated in the program. BDO, Sabindra Rai was present as the chief guest.
Addressing the program, Joint Director, Agriculture Department, HK Gautam urged all participants to take advantage of the program and work together in order to make the state a fully organic state. He informed that the state has been getting positive response for its organic produce and urged farmers to work in mission mode to achieve the desired results.
RN Sharma, [CONCEDE], spoke on the importance of fertilizers like vermi-compost. He highlighted the benefits of vermi-compost over other kinds of manure for cultivating vegetables. He expressed hope of positive response and cooperation from the concerned department in the future.
During the program, officials from the Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Departments and field functionaries, panchayats, also addressed the function.
