DC takes stock of damage around airport site

GANGTOK, 22 Dec: District Collector [East], Jitendra Raje, visited Pakyong, East Sikkim to take stock of the situation arising out of damages sustained by houses at the periphery of the Green Field Airport construction site in Pakyong. During the visit, the DC, SP East, SDM Pakyong and concerned officers from Land Revenue Department also visited some of the affected houses.
During the visit the DC convened a meeting with the local public in the presence of SDM Pakyong and AE Buildings. The DC informed the public that the State Government is monitoring the project in the interest of the people and assured that the District Administration will conduct monthly reviews of the project along with hearing the grievances of the affected people.
It was also informed that the five affected house owners who are staying on rent are being provided with the house rent and assessment of the compensation is under process.
The assessment of the compensation for 12 houses which are in a precarious situation is also under process, the DC informed. It was also informed that the assessment of the 47 houses below the road which have been reportedly partially damaged would be done through a technical committee.
The DC assured the people that safety of the public is the primary concern of the government and appealed to the people to be cautious and evacuate the houses if required. The District Administration is making necessary dwelling arrangements under the supervision of SDM Pakyong, he informed. He also directed SDM Pakyong to make necessary arrangements for demolition of the houses belonging to Dawa Rabden Kazi and Dawa Bhutia with all necessary safety arrangements.
During the meeting the DC appealed to the public to remain calm and assured that the District Administration is taking all necessary steps to address the grievances of the local public.
