Melli Sonam procures order for ‘status quo’ against eviction order of DC

NAMCHI, 11 Nov: DC South today sealed the building of NT Bhutia on the completion of the 30 days notice to the owner to evacuate the building. Better known as Melli Sonam, NT Bhutia was served with the notice to evacuate the building under Sikkim Public Premises Act on 11 October 2011 by the office of District Collectorate South, on the grounds that the building was encroaching upon forest land.
On the other hand upon approaching the High Court of Sikkim, Melli Sonam procured an order that status quo be maintainted, which is as good as a stay order. When asked about the stay order DC South, AK Singh said that he had been informed verbally about the stay order pronounced by the High Court of Sikkim but by then the sealing process had already been completed and hence he ordered SDM Namchi to not to proceed any further with the eviction.
Situated at Melli, South Sikkim this five storied building of Melli Sonam was served with the notice alleging that he had constructed the concrete building in the land belonging to Forest Department where he initially had been allowed to construct temporary workshop at the roadside many years ago.
