Makha residents irked by erratic water supply

MANGAN, 16 Nov: The public of Makha 10th Mile and nearby Dara Goan in East Sikkim have been facing acute shortage of drinking water for the past few weeks.
Water supply is disconnected at 8 AM in the morning and remains so till the next morning without any public notice being issued, they complain. Further, the water supplied is dirty and not fit for drinking, they add.
The source of this water is a water tank constructed below the road near Takzer village above Makha. During rains, surface runoff from rice fields and the road flow into the tank, they inform.
When the Makha public apprised the concerned PHE Department staff posted in the area about the problem, he said that he was not aware of the irregularity in water supply, they contend. The public here express that in case of any disruption in water supply they should be notified in time so that they can make alternate arrangements. They further complained that they are being harassed despite paying their water bills to the department on time.
