GANGTOK, 03 March: The All Sikkim Students Association [ASSA] has strongly condemned the cheating indulged in by three teachers of Suntaley JHS in the Chief Minister’s Special Merit Scholarship scheme. [click here for background details]
ASSA has demanded strict action against all the accused teachers, one of them a headmaster, for having sabotaged the vision of the Chief Minister with their ‘anti-social activities’. The department, it may be recalled, has already initiated disciplinary action and placed all three under suspension. [click here and here for details]
An ASSA press release issued by its president, Sonam Tshering Lepcha, rues that even after drawing a lavish salary, the highest in the country, government school teachers had resorted to such a disturbing trick which robbed government school students of opportunities especially created for them.
The association has also urged the people of the area not to forgive such the act.
The association also claims to have learnt of a similar incident with regard to the same scheme from another JHS in east Sikkim. This incident, allegations against which had surfaced earlier, has already been investigated by the department in detail and no foul play detected.
The association has urged the concerned department to monitor the scholarship scheme more closely and ensure that such incidents do not repeat in the future.
