Cong criticises issuance of Aadhar Number to CM before formal launch of programme

GANGTOK, 04 March: The State-unit of the Congress party has challenged the issuance of the Unique Identification Number [“Aadhar Number”] to the Chief Minister even before the project was formally launched in the State. A Congress press release issued by the party’s vice-president, spokesperson, Kunga Nima Lepcha, states that the UID project was launched only today by the Governor, but as per media reports, the UID enumeration of the CM carried out on 01 March. The release goes on to rake up the allegations questioning the Chief Minister’s citizenship [begun by the State-unit of the BJP with one of its members having filed a case on the matter in the Delhi High Court] and casts aspersions that the “hurry for obtaining the UID Number before it was formally launched... has given rise to doubt whether he intended to misuse this document for furthering his ulterior motive”.
The release even goes on to argue that with the case still pending in the Delhi High Court, the “matter is sub-judice and Chief Minister cannot obtain UID number” and calls on the concerned authorities to keep this in mind.
