Bar Khola receives traffic after week-long widening works

WANGCHUK BHUTIA
MANGAN, 03 March: The Mangan-Singtam highway via Dikchu, which was closed for traffic owing to the repair works at Bar Khola bridge since 20 February here at Lower Mangshilla in North Sikkim [15 kms from Mangan towards Singtam] was opened for traffic on Tuesday evening.

Around 400 vehicles crossed over from either side on either side by Tuesday night after the bridge was reopened at around 7 p.m. The widening works at this axis were carried out by the army engineering division along with the Border Roads Organisation.
The 130 feet long bailey bridge has been made 3 feet wider.
It may be recalled that this bridge has been washed away twice – in 2009 and 2010 – with traffic held up for almost a month the last time.
