GANGTOK, 18 March: Former international, Jamshed Nassirri, will kick-off the Gangtok debut of the Arsenal Tata Tea “Jaago Re Soccer Stars Season 4” at TNA Ground on Saturday at 9 a.m., an SFA press release informs. 31 school teams have signed up for the Gangtok leg of the event, it is informed.
The Jaago-Re Soccer Stars, a national tournament from Tata Tea in association with Arsenal FC, is now in its fourth edition and coming to Sikkim for the first time. Matches will be played out over two days, 19 and 20 March and the tournament is being organised by High Life Management under the guidance of the Sikkim Football Association.
The SFA general secretary, Menla Ethenpa, conveyed SFA’s elation that the sponsors and organisers selected Gangtok as one of the 15 venues for the tournament. “We all hope that the boys selected from the tournament make it to the squad for the 21st Arsenal international Soccer Festival in London,” he said.
The winning team from Gangtok will go on to compete in the national finals with 14 other finalists from different locations across the country.
Mr. Nassiri, the tournament Head Scout will be watching the matches, looking out for promising kids with exceptional talent in the game. 30 such kids from the 15 venues will be selected to be trained by Arsenal Coaches both in India and in London. Sixteen of them will them be taken to UK to participate in the Arsenal International Soccer Festival.
