Recruitment Board formed to expedite teacher appointments

With an expressed view to appoint teachers from pre-primary to post-graduate levels in the shortest possible time as and when the need comes up at government schools, the Human Resource Development Department has constituted the Teacher Recruitment Board. The Board is headed by retired Secretary SK Gurung and included former bureaucrat Prakash Subba and Selina Lepcha.
Thus far, teacher recruitment is looked after by the State Public Service Commission which has responsibilities towards several other government departments and the process of recruiting teachers tends to take rather long when processed through it. Since the Teacher Recruitment Board will be solely devoted to, well, teacher recruitment, the process is expected to be expedited substantially to the benefit of students and schools.
The ongoing process of recruitment of primary, graduate and post graduate teachers will be completed by the SPSC however, informs Bhim Thatal, official spokesperson of the HRDD.
Mr. Thatal adds that with the establishment of the Recruitment Board, the department will be able to time used up earlier in the processing of recruitment files from HRDD to SPSC. Shortage of teachers can now be addressed more quickly by the Board.
When asked how the new entity will address problems like human resource management, appointment of adhoc teachers and other core issues related with the recruitment process, Mr. Thatal said that the Teacher Recruitment Board has been constituted to not only expedite the teacher appointment process but also take care of all other related issues in a timebound manner.
