Sikkim Govt finalises official assistance for quake-hit Nepal

GANGTOK: The Sikkim Government, at a Cabinet meeting convened on 28 April, discussed the State’s response to the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal, parts of West Bengal, Bihar and UP on 25 April, and passed resolutions in this regard. As per a post on Chief Minister Pawan Chamling’s official fan-page on Facebook, the Cabinet “expressed deep sorrow and anguish at the loss of precious lives and property”.
“At this moment of sadness, we offer our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the people affected by the calamity. We can feel the pain and the anguish that they are going through, and we too share their grief. The entire State of Sikkim is with the affected people. May the Almighty give them forbearance and fortitude to bear the irreparable losses,” the Chief Minister has conveyed.
The post adds: Keeping in mind, the extent of sufferings and hardships being faced by the people of Nepal, the Cabinet felt it pertinent to provide relief in order to mitigate the immediate difficulties. It was therefore, decided that the following measures will be rendered by the State Government.
1. Blankets, mattresses, tents, tarpaulins, pants, shirts, sarees etc. would be sent to the Government of Nepal through a Secretary level officer of Government of Sikkim. This would be done in consultation with the Government of India. I have already directed the State administration to take necessary action.
2. 50% of a month’s salary of CM, all Ministers and MLAs would be donated.
3. One day’s salary of all Government employees would be donated.
