GANGTOK, 05 Oct: Salgaocar SC is all set with its young squad for a good start in this season of I-League which will kick off at Paljor Stadium on Saturday. Salgaocar SC will take on Bhaichung’s United Sikkim Football Club [USFC] on the first match of the I-League 2012-13.
Addressing a press conference today, Salgaocar SC Coach, Karim Bencherifa, shared that the club has had a good pre-season and even played very well in the Federation Cup and is looking forward to a good start in the I-League.
He added that the club has a very young squad this time with half of them aged below 23 years, all set to play a fair and good game. The club has made a few changes by adding some new players for this season said the club’s coach further adding that the club has four foreign players to add to its strength.
The coach mentioned that the despite a handsome victory over USFC in the recent Federation Club, the USFC has some advantages as they know every player of Salgaocar SC while they are not familiar with some new players in USFC who will be playing in tomorrow’s match.
Further adding that the club is expecting a good fight from the local club who also have the advantage of playing on home ground he said, “The home crowd is the twelfth player for the USFC, so it will be a big advantage for the local club in tomorrow’s match”.
However, the coach stated that it was upto the club to draw support from the local people and assured a good game from his club to establish a strong fan base here. He also expressed his gratitude to USFC and especially Bhaichung and the people of Sikkim for their hospitality and friendly nature.
Captain Luciano Sabrosa mentioned that the club will try to secure more points in the I-League by winning more matches. The first match against the local club will be a strong one for Salgaocar SC, he added.
Quinton Jacobs, who played for USFC in the second division I-League last season [when the club qualified for the A-division] nd is now with Salgaocar SC, expressed his happiness on playing in Gangtok once again. “I am just looking forward to play well in tomorrow’s match”, he expressed.
