GANGTOK, 11 March: Two suicides have been reported in the past 24 hours, one reportedly by a 9 year old boy in South Sikkim. According to reports the child, a resident of Lizahill Tea Estate, Darjeeling, committed suicide by hanging from a saw bench at Bhaisalgoan under Jorethang police jurisdiction. The incident took place on 11 March. The boy was reportedly living in Bhaisalgoan with his uncle and was studying there.
In the other case, a resident of Damak, Nepal, reportedly committed suicide on 11 March at Mangshila, North Sikkim, where he was currently living. His body was found hanging in the hut of one Basant Pradhan by Birkha Dhoj Limboo when the latter went out to the jungle to collect bamboo.
this is indeed alarming - suicide by a nine year old, what measures is the Government taking ??? Is it even aware of such problems?? Get up Health Minister and Social welfare minister and take a stand!!!
