Street play speaks out against discrimination of women

GANGTOK, 06 May: A street play, “Naya Shitij”, highlighting the social ill of discrimination against women and the girl-child, was performed today in Dzongu and Phodong in North Sikkim today.
The play has been sponsored by the Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department in collaboration with the North-East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur, and will be staged across the state.
Written by Jagdish Sharma and directed by Phurba Lepcha, the play features Yadav Sunam, Deepak Sharma, Rewati Lepcha, Anita Chettri, Ankita Tamang and M Pathak from Gangtok as actors.
The play will be staged at Namchi and Daramdin on Saturday and at Rhenock and Yangang in the coming days.
