North meets to coordinate better for CATCH


MANGAN, 04 May: A district-level coordination meeting on Mission Healthy Sikkim and Chief Minister Comprehensive Annual and Total Health Checkup for Healthy Sikkim [CATCH] Sikkim, was convened by the Health Department at Mangan Zilla Bhawan on Tuesday.
The CMO (N), Dr IL Sharma, in his address informed that the Department has carried out 54 CATCH programmes in the district thus far. In some places, the public faced several problems due to the lack of a clear understanding of the CATCH programme which the Department will try to rectify, he assured.

Additional Director, Health, Dr. PM Pradhan, who was present as a resource person, explained the CATCH programme, highlighting that a number of diseases in Sikkim were caused due to alcohol and tobacco consumption and advising that intake of these substances should be controlled by the people themselves.
The people were also briefed on the benefits of balanced diet and counseling, clean environment, good health and good life style in order to minimize the rising suicide rate in the state.
Dr. Pradhan also shared information on several herbal medicines which can be prepared at home. The public were also informed that in order to enroll in the CATCH programme Sikkim Subject and Voter ID Card is mandatory.
The chief guest, Up-Adhyaksha (N), PD Bhutia, in her address said that, CATCH was a very important programme introduced by the Chief Minister and that the Health Department should conduct the programme systematically to make it successful.
The programme was also attended by DM (N), TN Kazi, MNP Councilors, government officials, members of ASHA, Panchayats and Zilla members.
